I don’t think so… a friend recently shared this with me:
“Rudeness is the weak person’s imitation of strength”
It’s been my experience that people who are blunt, tactless, inconsiderate, rude and abusive think these behaviors represent strength of character, the act of ‘taking care of self’, a ‘no-nonsense’ approach to dealing with others. They think they are doing others a service.
Those same people seem to think that if you are considerate, if you think of others’ feelings, if you put others ahead of self, then you are weak, broken, there is something wrong with you, you are trying to gain favor, you are a ‘doormat’.
I, personally, think it takes more strength to continue to treat people in a polite and considerate manner when they are being rude or abusive to you than it does to return cruelty for cruelty. Standing by your convictions, your values and beliefs…
